Overview:
Presence News is releasing a collection of free, original editorial-use photographs documenting the Don Holt Bridge in Charleston, South Carolina. The images are available for public, professional, and media use at no cost, reflecting Presence News’ commitment to open-access journalism and community documentation.
Presence News is making a set of original editorial photographs of the Don Holt Bridge freely available for public and professional use.
The Don Holt Bridge, a critical segment of Interstate 526, is one of Charleston’s most important — and most heavily traveled — infrastructure links. Our photography captures the bridge and its surrounding environment as part of ongoing community-focused reporting in the Lowcountry.

Rather than placing these images behind paywalls or restrictive licenses, Presence News has chosen to release them openly.
Why These Photos Are Free
Earlier this year, Presence News applied for contributor approval with major stock photography platforms, including Getty Images and Shutterstock. While we would normally distribute photography through those channels, our application was not approved.
Instead of limiting access, we decided to remove barriers entirely.
These Don Holt Bridge images are now free for:
- Editorial use
- News reporting
- Professional and commercial design contexts
- Educational and nonprofit projects
Attribution to Presence News is appreciated, but not required.
Open Distribution Encouraged
In keeping with open-access principles, anyone is welcome to upload these images to free photography platforms such as Pexels or Unsplash, provided they remain free and publicly accessible.
These images are intended to document infrastructure, place, and moment — not to be controlled by gatekeepers.
Documenting Charleston’s Infrastructure
Infrastructure tells a story. The Don Holt Bridge represents daily life for tens of thousands of residents commuting between communities across Charleston County.
By releasing these images, Presence News aims to support:
- Local and national newsrooms
- Designers and publishers seeking accurate regional visuals
- Educators and researchers documenting transportation systems
- Creators telling stories rooted in real places
