A large-scale, modern Los Angeles Dodgers mural now covers the side of the DoubleTree by Hilton in Torrance, attracting both baseball fans and art lovers.
A New Landmark for Dodgers Fans
The mural, titled Summural of the Diamond, captures the dynamic motion of featured players Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Japanese pitching star Roki Sasaki. Additionally, the mural was created by Los Angeles-based artist Robert Vargas, known for his colorful, large-scale outdoor works.
The project began approximately two years ago, with developers collaborating with project manager Linda Amato to bring the vision to life. Together, they aimed to blend traditional street art with modern technology.
A Vision Years in the Making
One unique aspect of the installation is its interactivity. Specifically, guests can scan a QR code on-site to access an augmented reality experience. Once activated, the artwork becomes animated, adding a digital layer of player movement over the physical mural.
Augmented Reality Brings the Mural to Life
The mural is located on the exterior of the hotel and is visible from a considerable distance, making it easy for visitors to spot. Vargas’ signature appears on the left side, while a hotel representative, Mr. Koo, signed the bottom right.
