Los Angeles Launches Metro K Line with Direct LAX Access

A New Metro Line Connects Redondo Beach to LAX

If you live in the South Bay or Redondo Beach, getting to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) just became much easier. This summer, Metro officially launched the K Line, marked in pink on the map, connecting Redondo Beach to LAX through several key Los Angeles neighborhoods.

The Metro K Line opened in June 2025, following years of development and anticipation. According to a Metro security guard, “There have been many people going to the Metro K line to LAX. This line is popular right now in the South Bay because everyone is using it to get to the airport.”

Presence News reporter Maria Cornejo took a trip on the new Metro K Line from Redondo Beach Station, experiencing firsthand what many locals are already calling one of the most convenient routes in the city. The sleek, gray and white Metro cars provide a smooth ride through South Los Angeles, while offering quick connections to other lines and bus routes.

The LAX Shuttle Connection

For travelers heading directly to the airport, a blue shuttle bus now runs between the Metro K Line’s LAX/Metro Transit Center and all LAX terminals. The shuttle operates frequently, making the transfer from train to terminal simple and efficient for passengers with luggage.

Where the K Line Goes

The K Line connects several notable Los Angeles communities, including:

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Station
  • Leimert Park
  • Hyde Park
  • Fairview Heights
  • Downtown Inglewood
  • Westchester/Veterans
  • LAX/Metro Transit Center
  • Aviation/Century
  • Mariposa
  • Douglas
  • Redondo Beach

Although the K Line is smaller than some of Metro’s other routes, it serves a diverse and active corridor of South Los Angeles — linking cultural landmarks, neighborhoods, and major transit points.

Transition from Line C to Line K

Before the change, much of this route was part of the Metro C Line (Green Line). In June 2025, Metro reorganized the system, splitting the route into Line C (Green) and Line K (Pink) to better serve the growing demand for airport and South Bay connectivity.

With this new addition, Metro continues to expand its vision of a more connected Los Angeles — one that makes getting to LAX simpler, greener, and more accessible than ever.
