MALIBU, CA — Presence News recently had the opportunity to experience an unexpected morning performance by Johnny Venus at Aviator Nation Dreamland in Malibu, where guests enjoying breakfast were treated to an intimate live music set.
Known for his soulful vocals, energetic stage presence, and genre-blending style, Johnny Venus transformed the relaxed coastal atmosphere into a memorable live music experience. The performance showcased the artist’s ability to connect with audiences in a more personal setting, surprising visitors who had stopped by for a weekday breakfast.
Johnny Venus, whose full name is Olu Onyemachi Dakarai Fann, is best known as one-half of the acclaimed Atlanta hip-hop duo EARTHGANG alongside WowGr8 (formerly known as Doctur Dot). Since forming in 2008, the duo has earned recognition for blending hip-hop, soul, funk, and experimental sounds while developing a dedicated following across the country.
EARTHGANG first introduced listeners to their music with The Better Party EP in 2010 before releasing a series of mixtapes, including Mad Men and Good News. Their debut studio album, Shallow Graves For Toys, arrived in 2013 and received praise from music critics for its creativity, lyrical depth, and distinctive sound. The duo continued building momentum with Strays with Rabies before signing with J. Cole’s Dreamville Records.
Following their signing, EARTHGANG released the Rags, Robots, and Royalty EP trilogy, leading to their major label debut album, Mirrorland, in 2019. Alongside fellow Atlanta artists including JID, 6lack, Mereba, Hollywood JB, JordxnBryant, and Benji, Johnny Venus and WowGr8 also co-founded the creative musical collective Spillage Village.
