The American Hockey League franchise formerly known as the Bridgeport Islanders has officially relocated from Bridgeport, Connecticut, and will now compete as the Hamilton Hammers in Hamilton, Ontario.
The club remains the primary American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders and will continue competing in the AHL’s North Division. The team will play its home games at the newly renovated TD Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario, beginning with the upcoming 2026–27 season.
Presence News learned of the relocation through an email.
Founder Kasdyn Click previously attended a Bridgeport Regional Business Council event that was hosted in a press box during a Bridgeport Islanders home game in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Following the event, one of the organization’s contacts was added to the Presence News newsletter distribution list.
After a recent Presence News newsletter was sent, an automated email response revealed the franchise’s move:
“Thank you for reaching out to the Bridgeport Islanders. Our team has relocated and is now playing in Hamilton as the Hamilton Hammers. Your message has automatically been forwarded to the New York Islanders service team, and a representative will follow up with you soon. We appreciate your patience and your continued support of the Islanders organization.”
The automatic reply prompted Presence News to verify the information through the Hamilton Hammers’ official website, which confirms the team’s relocation and new branding ahead of the upcoming season.
The Hamilton Hammers are scheduled to begin their inaugural season this October. As the top developmental affiliate of the New York Islanders, the organization will continue developing prospects for the NHL club while competing against teams throughout the AHL’s North Division.
Hockey fans interested in following the team’s transition, roster announcements, schedule releases, and other organizational updates are encouraged to monitor the Hamilton Hammers’ official website for the latest press releases and team news. https://www.hamiltonhammers.com
