Metro Celebrates Opening of D Line Extension in Los Angeles

At 12:30 PM, a variety of guests participated in a ceremony at the Wilshire/La Cienega station marking the first day of service on the new LA Metro D Line Extension. The LA Metro D Line Extension adds new rapid subway access to the Wilshire/La Cienega area.

There were many activities throughout the program from 12:30 PM until 4:00 PM. These included demonstrations showing riders how to use the new service. Guests also shared feedback about how Metro can better serve public transportation riders. Meanwhile, they enjoyed free meals, tote bags, and giveaways from vendors.

Metro Expansion Improves Transportation Access

The opening of the D Line extension makes it easier for riders to travel between Downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown, Mid-Wilshire, and the Wilshire/La Cienega area. Moreover, Metro says future phases of the project are expected to expand service farther west to Century City, UCLA, and Westwood.

Riders Learn About New Transit Connections

Community members attending the event viewed maps showing the Mid-Wilshire connections and learned how Metro expects the extension to reduce travel times for commuters. According to Metro officials, the extension may help riders avoid traffic congestion. In addition, it may reduce transportation costs by using the subway instead of driving.
