New York, New York – New York Fashion Week continues to bring together established fashion houses, emerging designers and independent creative voices, reflecting the changing ways fashion is presented and experienced. For designer Jason Christopher Peters, his latest New York presentation carried a particularly personal significance: it marked 25 years since he began his career in fashion. In an interview with Presence News reporter Susmita Majumder, Peters reflected on the milestone, his creative philosophy and the evolution of his career.
The September 2026 NYFW season, which ran from September 10–15, 2026, was organized through the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and took place at venues across New York City. The event featured 70 runway shows and designer presentations on its official schedule. The week included established names such as Ralph Lauren, Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Tory Burch, and Thom Browne. In addition, it included newer designers and first-time additions to the official calendar.
A Personal Celebration at NYFW
Against that broader fashion landscape, Peters used his anniversary presentation to focus on something less institutional and more personal: celebration. Moreover, Jason Christopher Peters’ New York Fashion Week collection stood out for its vibrancy and individuality.
“The concept was a celebration,” Peters said. “The show was colorful and bright.”
The presentation incorporated balloons, confetti, ribbons, tulle, stars, glitter, and Swarovski crystals. For Peters, the visual excess was intentional.

Rather than approaching the anniversary as a retrospective, he wanted the collection to communicate optimism and enjoyment.
“The industry needs more fun!” he said. “I want the audience to be happy and know that life can be fun and you should celebrate yourself and your accomplishments every day.”
That emphasis on joyful dressing also appeared elsewhere during the September 2026 fashion week. Associated Press coverage of the season identified a broader movement toward vibrant, playful, and celebratory fashion. Designers used bold colors, movement, bows, fringe, and other expressive details as part of this trend. Jason Christopher Peters’ New York Fashion Week experience certainly embodied this joyful approach.

Peters’ approach, however, has developed independently of fashion trends. Reflecting on his 25 years in the industry, he said he continues to learn rather than follow a fixed formula.
“Even after 25 years, I still learn every day. I don’t have a playbook,” Peters said. “I just go with what my mind and heart tell me to do, and I do it.”
He describes individuality as a central part of his design identity. He says he has never wanted his work confined to conventional expectations.
“I’ve never wanted to be put in a box,” he said. “I’ve always thought outside the box and even colored outside the lines. My brand is fun, unique, colorful, and me!”
A 25-Year Journey in Fashion
Peters’ career began in 2001, when he was encouraged by his grandparents to pursue his interest in fashion. One of his early milestones was an internship with designer Betsey Johnson. He remembers this as part of a career filled with significant moments.
“My Pops and Grams always believed in me and really encouraged me when I first started in 2001,” Peters said.
He also points to his fashion presentation in front of the White House as another significant moment in his career. He describes it as an achievement he considers historic.
“There have been so many beautiful and memorable moments in my 25 years as a Designer,” he said. “There are thousands of memories. I have too many to count.”
Building a Career on Individuality
The scale and structure of fashion week have changed considerably since Peters entered the industry. Today, the traditional runway exists alongside digital presentations, livestreams, and social platforms. These allow collections to reach audiences beyond the physical venue. The CFDA, which manages the Official NYFW Schedule, has also expanded public access through NYFW Live at Rockefeller Center. Here, shows are streamed for audiences beyond the traditional fashion crowd.
Peters says he has deliberately avoided allowing industry trends to dictate his creative direction.
“To be honest, I don’t really follow what the fashion industry does,” he said. “I think when you move with pure intentions and stay true to yourself, you’ll always be blessed.”
For him, longevity is therefore not simply about remaining visible within fashion. It is about continuing to create work that reflects his own artistic identity.

To illustrate, Jason Christopher Peters New York Fashion Week showcases reflected his ongoing artistic journey.
“My goal has always been to inspire the world through my art,” Peters said. “My focus has always been longevity and to make my dreams a reality.”
Looking Ahead After 25 Years
The 25th-anniversary event also brought together figures from fashion and entertainment.

Among those Peters identified as attending were Nolé Marin, known for his work as a creative director and television personality. Other attendees included creative director, talent representative, and celebrity stylist Keino Beinz, and model Lance Stefanakis. Guests also received gift boxes from Beauty Of Science Official, with makeup products from Autte USA.
For Peters, however, the anniversary is ultimately less about looking backward than about continuing to create.
“Success to me means accomplishing goals you never imagine you could,” he said. “It’s not just to think and dream. It’s putting in the work to make your dreams real.”
After 25 years, Peters says he intends to continue working across fashion and creative disciplines. This includes his work as a designer, model, stylist and activist.
“I just hope to continue to inspire and influence the world as a designer, model, stylist and activist,” he said.
As New York Fashion Week continues to evolve between runway tradition, independent presentations and increasingly accessible digital experiences, Peters’ anniversary presentation offered a distinctly personal interpretation of what a fashion milestone can represent. In summary, Jason Christopher Peters’ New York Fashion Week presence embodies a unique creative vision that continues to evolve and inspire.
