Los Angeles, Calif. — On August 16, Little Tokyo in Los Angeles became bustling with Japanese pop culture activities, music, games and food, as JX Matsuri offered an opportunity to take part in Nisei Week festivities.
Presence News correspondent Maria Cornejo was also present at the event. She covered the incident through her reports about what was happening in Little Tokyo.
The event took place in the Little Tokyo region, including Weller Court located at 123 Astronaut Ellison S Onizuka St, Los Angeles, CA 90012, and featured several attractions for all visitors.
The event featured a DJ playing music throughout the celebration, along with ping-pong and game booths where guests could participate and spend time with friends and other visitors.
Nisei Week is a longstanding Japanese American cultural celebration in Los Angeles, with events taking place throughout Little Tokyo. The 2026 festival included activities on August 15–16 and additional events later in August.

Games and Activities
Ping-pong was among the activities available to visitors at JX Matsuri. The guests encouraged each other to join in excitement at the table, adding to the fun as attendees came together to watch and participate in the events.
The event featured many booths for the games. There was no charge to play some games, but others required tickets to be purchased before playing any games, which allowed participants to participate in the activities as they moved through the event.
Food and drinks were also available for guests to sample. Among the items distributed at the event were packaged ramen chips, giving visitors a chance to try a Japanese-inspired snack while enjoying the festivities.
Cosplay Brings Japanese Pop Culture to Little Tokyo
Outside Weller Court, visitors could also encounter cosplayers dressed as classic Kamen Rider characters.

The group included cosplayers portraying Kamen Rider 2, Kamen Rider V3, and another classic Kamen Rider character. Their costumes brought a recognizable piece of Japanese tokusatsu — a genre known for its live-action superhero and special-effects productions — into the streets of Little Tokyo.
Kamen Rider has always had an important part in the culture of Japan, as its figures brought a sense of uniqueness to the various activities happening that day.
For visitors, participating in cosplay is another means of connecting with Japanese culture, as well as enjoying many other attractions offered by the event.
A Day of Community and Celebration
The event “JX Matsuri” brought more fun to the busy Little Tokyo Day, as the Nisei Week included cultural activities, performances, food, and events in the community.
The participants had fun enjoying the music, games, and food in addition to the various acts of cosplaying during the event.
The event is a perfect showcase for what Nisei Week is all about: it offers visitors a number of traditional activities reflecting Japanese culture, as well as modern-day attractions from the world of pop culture.
As guests played ping-pong, visited booths, sampled snacks and stopped to see the cosplayers, JX Matsuri provided a lively gathering place within the larger Little Tokyo celebration.
For visitors to Nisei Week, the event offered another memorable way to experience the energy of Little Tokyo and enjoy a day centered on community, entertainment and Japanese culture.
