Presence News was on site for press coverage and had the opportunity to speak with Jim Olson and his team, who have competed in the race for more than 40 years, making them one of the event’s longest-running participant groups. Olson reflected on how the race has evolved over the decades while still maintaining its core spirit—bringing neighbors together on Super Bowl Sunday for a shared experience rooted in health and local pride.

Also participating were Brian Holmes and a group of runners from Neuma Church, a local organization with strong ties to the Redondo Beach area. Holmes and his friends emphasized the race as an opportunity to connect faith, fellowship, and wellness, highlighting how community events like this create meaningful local engagement beyond the finish line.

The event was hosted by the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce, with support from the City of Redondo Beach, reinforcing the race’s role as both an athletic event and a civic gathering point. With sunny coastal conditions and a supportive crowd lining the course, runners of all levels took part in either the 10K or 5K route, many returning year after year as part of a personal or family tradition.

A wide range of local and regional sponsors helped make the event possible, including Athens Services, California Water Service, Kendall Law, Sunny with a Chance of Flowers Wines, BeachLife Festival, CA Surf Club, Beach Cities Health District, and AdventurePlex. Their involvement underscored the collaborative effort behind one of Redondo Beach’s most enduring annual events.

As the city transitions from race morning into Super Bowl Sunday festivities, the Redondo Beach Super Bowl Sunday 10K & 5K once again proved that some traditions endure—not just through competition, but through community.
