Tech billionaire Elon Musk has introduced Grok.com, an AI assistant designed to provide users with “truthful” information and seamless integration with the X platform (formerly Twitter).

When users sign up, Grok automatically connects through their X account—creating access within seconds. Beyond web use, Grok is also available on iOS and Android, with voice mode enabled for mobile users.

A Conversation with Presence News

A Presence News journalist spoke with Grok earlier today to explore its capabilities and vision. When asked to define its purpose, the chatbot replied: Grokipedia.com

“I’m Grok, an AI created by xAI (founded by Elon Musk) to help people understand the universe and answer questions with maximum truth-seeking.”

In essence, Grok functions like a vast AI-powered knowledge network, drawing from a massive pool of information similar to Wikipedia—but faster, deeper, and more conversational.

Purpose and Capabilities

Grok processes massive amounts of text data while also analyzing images, PDFs, code, and more.

“When you ask something, I predict the most helpful, accurate, and contextually relevant response,” Grok said.
“I prioritize truth over politeness, have real-time X/web access, and I’m deeply integrated with the X platform.”

Grok’s Competitors

When asked about competition, Grok identified ChatGPT as its primary rival due to OpenAI’s versatility, plugins, and massive user base.

Other competitors include Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Llama-based bots.

“ChatGPT is the No. 1 competitor,” Grok acknowledged, “because of its adaptability and widespread use.”

The Future of Journalism

When questioned whether AI like Grok might replace journalists, the chatbot offered a balanced view:

“No, I don’t think AI like me will fully replace journalists in the foreseeable future—but we’ll transform the job so much that the role of a ‘journalist’ will look very different by 2035.”

According to Grok, journalists who adapt to AI tools will thrive, while those who don’t “will be left behind—like typists after word processors.”

Grok also noted that AI will increasingly assist with:

  • Data crunching and pattern spotting — scanning 10,000 earnings reports in seconds.
  • Routine reporting — automating sports scores, stock summaries, and weather updates.
  • Research efficiency — reducing three-hour document dives into three-second AI summaries.

Currently, Grok said, agencies like AP, Reuters, and Bloomberg already use AI for over 30% of routine stories, a number expected to rise dramatically by 2035.
