During a June 2 ceremony, city leaders issued a Pride proclamation recognizing LGBTQ+ residents and celebrating Pride Month.
Pride Proclamation Issued
Also at this year’s ceremony, city employees and city officials raised the Pride flag outside Redondo Beach City Hall at the Redondo Beach Civic Center. The annual Pride flag-raising tradition began in 2023 when the city raised the Pride flag at City Hall for the first time.

Community Participation and Celebration
Among those participating was Betty Leinen of the South Bay LGBTQ Center in Torrance. Leinen held a copy of the Pride proclamation. She gave out Pride flags and brochures about upcoming community events at the ceremony.
Pride Flag Raised at City Hall
The Pride flag, which was raised during the ceremony, has colors that represent many of the different communities within the LGBTQ+ culture. The flag’s colors represent LGBTQ+ people of color, the transgender community, and intersex individuals.
Before the ceremony, attendees gathered outside City Hall as preparations were made to raise the flag. The event also featured community members wearing Pride-themed clothing and displaying colorful decorations in support of Pride Month.

Leinen came to the venue in a Pride-themed vehicle with Pride-related decorations and Pride flags on the outside. The vehicle added to the festive atmosphere of the event.
Redondo Beach Police had a presence at the event as well.
Event Concludes with Community Gathering
Attendees gathered for a group photo and waved their small Pride flags after organizers raised the flag. The event concluded with participants celebrating together and reflecting on the importance of visibility, acceptance, and support during Pride Month.

Each June, Pride Month honors the achievements, struggles, and experiences of LGBTQ+ people while promoting diversity and equality.
Attendees thanked the City of Redondo Beach for recognizing Pride Month and supporting LGBTQ+ residents.
