The 2026 New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists Awards, also referred to as the New Jersey SPJ Awards 2026, recognized journalists and media organizations for reporting on public affairs, investigations, and community issues.

Held at the New Jersey Historical Society, the event also encouraged discussion about local journalism.

Celebrating Excellence in Community Journalism

Suzzy Majumder of Presence News attended the ceremony with journalists, public officials, and media representatives from across New Jersey.

Prior to the event, Majumder briefly met with Senator Raj Mukherji and discussed issues affecting Hoboken and Hudson County.

NJSPJ also supports standards of fair and accurate reporting while recognizing contributions to local and regional journalism throughout New Jersey.

Over the years, the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists has included journalism professionals and chapter leaders such as John Ensslin and Steve Lubetkin, while continuing to promote ethical reporting, press freedom, and professional development within New Jersey media.

Meeting with Senator Raj Mukherji

Majumder also spoke with public officials and community leaders attending the event. Raj Mukherji represents parts of Hudson County in the New Jersey State Senate.

Raj Mukherji was elected to the New Jersey State Senate in 2023 after previously serving multiple terms in the General Assembly representing Hudson County. During his legislative career, Mukherji held leadership positions, including Assembly Majority Whip and Deputy Speaker, while serving on committees involving transportation, judiciary matters, public health, and veterans’ affairs. Prior to his work in the Legislature, he served as Deputy Mayor of Jersey City and has also worked professionally as an attorney and educator. Official legislative biographies additionally note his service in the United States Marine Corps following the September 11 attacks.
