On Sunday, May 3rd, the Common Space in Hawthorne became an artistic wonderland featuring readers, writers, and artists gathering at a Fantasy & Science Fiction Book Fair. For fans of the genre, the Sci-fi & fantasy book fair was an exciting opportunity to connect and discover new stories. Certainly, the Sci-fi & fantasy book fair stood out as an excellent event for sharing creativity among the community. This was an event for members of the community to come together to experience creative work and storytelling.
Event hosted by Boutique Book Retreats
A Marketplace of Books, Art, and Creativity
Attendees arrived at the event, where there were many tables. Those tables showcased various types of books, themed merchandise, and original artwork based on many fantasy and sci-fi universes.
Notably, the Sci-fi & fantasy book fair included multiple entrepreneurs who showcased their products through various methods involving storytelling through their handcrafted goods and detailed artwork. Those methods include storytelling through their artwork and the creation of suitable items for sale at this event.
Local Vendors Bring Stories to Life
Local vendors such as the Rebel and the Fleur Book Market and The Bookish Aether offered book-themed items based on the fantasy/sci-fi genre. Meanwhile, Pages had a wide range of books for anyone who loves to read. Additionally, Velvet Hammer offered a unique twist by providing creatively themed energy drinks based on the various genres of books. It is clear that the Sci-fi & fantasy book fair brought a special dynamic to this local event.

Authors Connect with Readers
The book fair presented an opportunity for independent authors and creators to engage with audiences through a connection to the “people behind the story.” As a result, there were many writers, illustrators, and small press publishers displaying and marketing their works of magic, fantasy, and imaginative world-building. This happened as visitors shopped at the book fair.
Featured Authors at the Event
Among the authors were:
AJ Wynn – offering many visitors small products and engaging with potential customers about her books through conversation.
Jonathan Parker – was exhibiting his science fiction titles.
Rachel N. Harker – was showing her book, “Sharp Shadowed Wings”.

Herbert de Leon – presented his fantasy series, containing his most recent work, “Forgotten Island”.
More Than a Marketplace
The attendees did much more than merely purchase books on this behalf; they established connections with others and built relationships. Numerous attendees perceived the event as much more than a market for goods. The Sci-fi & fantasy book fair allowed attendees to meet new people as well. As a result, attendees left experiencing both signed copies of books, as well as a discussion of their inspiration for creating versus where they have gone creatively.
Building Community Through Storytelling
When the day concluded, people took home not just new reading material but also a stronger connection with the local arts community.
