Man Charged Following Alleged $1.1 Million Vehicle Fraud Investigation in Victoria

Police have charged a 48-year-old man from Essendon, Victoria, after a major investigation into an alleged automobile fraud scheme involving luxury vehicles worth about AUD $1.1 million.

Authorities allege that the man obtained multiple high-end vehicles through online used-car marketplaces. All allegations are currently before the courts.

The Details

Victoria Police state that the man acquired several luxury vehicles by deception between November 2023 and late 2024. The investigation is led by the Victoria Police Financial Crime Squad.

On Tuesday morning, police executed search warrants at three locations connected to the accused: a residence in Niddrie, a private address in Essendon, and a business address in Essendon.

During the operation, police seized mobile phones, electronic devices, number plates, and documents believed to be linked to the alleged offenses. These items will undergo forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police also reviewed numerous online transactions, ownership records, and vehicle transfer documents.

High-Value Vehicles

The investigation involves the following vehicles:

  • Lamborghini
  • Audi
  • Porsche
  • Range Rover
  • Mini Cooper
  • Bentley
  • Two BMWs

The total estimated value is around AUD $1.1 million. Police report that most vehicles have been recovered and returned to their owners, and efforts continue to locate the remaining ones.

Court Proceedings

The man faces multiple charges of obtaining property by deception and one charge of possessing a drug of dependence. He appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court, and the case has been adjourned to a later date.

Victoria Police indicate that the investigation is ongoing and that further charges may follow. All matters remain before the courts.
