LOS ANGELES, California — Presence News reporter Maria Cornejo covered L.A. Comic Con on Friday, October 30, as the three-day convention celebrated its 15th year at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The convention ran from October 30 through November 1, bringing together fans of comics, anime, movies, television, and gaming for a weekend celebrating popular culture. As fans look ahead to next year, anticipation is already building for another L.A. Comic Con.
Cosplay was one of the most apparent highlights of the convention. Fans portrayed characters from popular comic books, anime, and movies, with many opportunities to take pictures and chat with other fans.
Cosplay Brings Popular Characters to Life
Cosplayers brought popular characters to life through costumes inspired by comic books, animated series, fantasy films, and anime.
Among the characters represented were Batman, Doctor Doom, and Deadpool. Other attendees portrayed Princess Aurora and Maleficent, while handing out pocket mirrors to visitors.

Characters from the Scooby-Doo franchise also appeared throughout the event. Cosplayers portraying Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Shaggy Rogers carried Scooby-Doo-themed snack boxes.

Cosplayers portraying Darth Vader and Princess Leia Organa from the Star Wars films also appeared at the convention, posing with lightsabers.

The variety of costumes gave fans opportunities to photograph recognizable characters and interact with fellow attendees.

Comic Exhibits and Movie-Themed Displays
Besides cosplay, there were displays and exhibitions honoring comic book characters and popular film brands.
Visitors encountered character statues, themed displays, and vehicles inspired by movies and television shows. The displays gave visitors additional opportunities to take photographs and explore memorabilia connected to popular entertainment franchises.
Featured in the exhibits was a Scooby-Doo-styled automobile displaying characters from the franchise.

Scooby-Doo was shown alongside the characters Daphne Blake and Fred Jones dressed in skeleton outfits.
Captain America, Thor, and Ant-Man were also represented through character statues.

The combination of comic book displays, movie-inspired vehicles, and collectible exhibits gave visitors additional ways to explore the worlds represented throughout the convention.
Comic Book Creators and Writers Meet Fans
Independent comic book creators and writers also had opportunities to showcase their work and interact with visitors.
Comic book creator Bobby White spoke about his comic book, Cerro Gordo. White also distributed free comic books to attendees, giving visitors an opportunity to discover his work.
Writer Dylan Palmer also spoke with fans at the convention.
Creator booths allowed visitors to learn about independent comic book projects and meet the writers and artists developing original stories and characters.
These interactions offered visitors another perspective on the convention beyond celebrity appearances and merchandise shopping.
Celebrity Appearances and Fan Experiences
The chance to interact with celebrities was yet another highlight for convention-goers. Attendees had opportunities to request autographs and take photographs with entertainment personalities.
Nonetheless, there were some services that would incur additional expenses over basic entry. Fans willing to meet their favorite celebrities had to pay more for this service.
Despite the added expense, autograph sessions and photo opportunities provided fans with opportunities to meet entertainment personalities and take home signed memorabilia.
A Weekend Celebrating Fandom
LA Comic Con united various aspects of popular culture such as comic books, animation, science fiction, gaming, as well as movies and anime.
The event featured everything from elaborate cosplay costumes to themed vehicles, independent comic book makers, and many interactive gaming experiences.

Comic Con allowed fans to be able to engage with their favorite characters while discovering new independent projects, as well as meeting like-minded individuals and people with similar interests.
The 15th annual L.A. Comic Con continued the convention’s celebration of creativity and popular culture through comics, anime, gaming, and entertainment.
