NEW YORK, NEW YORK – If you are planning a trip to New York this September, there is something you might notice before you even reach the runway. Your hotel bill could be much higher than usual.
Manhattan hotel prices are surging as New York Fashion Week 2026 prepares to return to the city from September 10 to 15. Fashion Week events and runway shows will take place at venues across New York, while Rockefeller Center, located at 45 Rockefeller Plaza, will serve as a public destination where visitors can watch participating NYFW shows. The fashion world is heading to New York for the Spring/Summer 2027 collections, bringing designers, buyers, journalists, celebrities and influencers with it.

New York Is Getting Ready for Fashion Week
For six days, New York will become the center of the global fashion calendar. The 2026 Fashion Week schedule features major names including Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Carolina Herrera, Calvin Klein Collection, Diane von Furstenberg, Thom Browne, Conner Ives, Magda Butrym and Zaldy.
The Shows Will Not Be Confined to a Single Runway.
Fashion Week events will take place across New York City at various venues, with shows, presentations and related events scheduled throughout Manhattan and other boroughs.
For fashion insiders, it is a week of runway shows, meetings and parties. For tourists, it can mean crowded neighborhoods and more expensive accommodation.
From ‘Press Week’ to a Global Fashion Event
New York Fashion Week has a surprisingly long history.
The origins of the event date back to 1943 when Eleanor Lambert, a fashion publicist, conceived of the idea of what was initially called “Press Week.” Due to the hindrances created by World War II, travel to Paris had become a problem. Therefore, this enabled American designers to reach the media in a faster way.

That small shift helped put American fashion on the international map.
Over the decades, New York Fashion Week moved through different venues and formats. Eventually, it became the major global fashion event it is today.
What to Expect at NYFW 2026
Not every fashion show is a high-stakes affair witnessed on Instagram.
Some fashion shows are held in the normal way, where the models are presenting the new collection of clothing. Others are presentations, allowing buyers and journalists to examine the clothes more closely.
There are also digital and hybrid events, meaning audiences do not necessarily have to be inside New York to follow the latest collections.
But for those who do make the trip, NYFW is more than fashion.

It is where design, business, media, celebrity culture, and technology meet. For a few September days, the streets of New York are integrated into the event.
